Now I know I'm biased against Slashdot but what is the point in comparing ourselves against them when the unavailable message is shown (a link to Alexa.com compares our web traffic)? Would it not be possible to link to something more appropriate? We demolish Britannica.com (though would they complain about the comparison) and Apple.com and IBM.com are both interesting.
I wouldn't think Apple or IBM would be appropriate, as they are both profit-making companies. It wouldn't be NPOV to link to them. Incidentally, I agree with you about Slashdot, and Britannica. Perhaps a Wikipedia mirror - I know we don't particularly like them, but it would be our own information.

There is nothing wrong with being a for-profit company.
Some mirrors are much more appropriate than others, of course.
Some we don't like for simple aesthetic reasons. Others because they have been guilty of spamming. But in general, I personally love mirrors, because that's what we want people to do: reuse our work.
