This may be something old, but a friend of mine asked me a question online today, including this bit: -------------- I got an email for a liquidation sale. http://rd.sales.overstock.com/cprOverstock/10000/cphostredirect.asp?sid=2023...
I click that link, and below the merchandise is a box with the following in it.

* Wikipedia has become an instrument of mass mind-control. I thought you'd want to know. Respectfully, Patrick M. Byrne CEO, Overstock.com PS Ask yourself, might there be other subjects, like Wall Street corruption, where the same techniques are being employed? (Incidentally, Jimbo Wales, the founder of Wikipedia, is a former Chicago options trader. How odd.) For the full picture, click here.* ================ --------------------------------
what the hell's going on?
He's practically psychotic, and has been for awhile. If the stock of his company ever goes up again, he might mellow out. In the mean time, you can be assured that anyone who doesn't conform to his radical opinions about corporate conspiracies will be tarred and feathered in the same manner.

You know, this sort of name-calling isn't particularly helpful, especially in a public and official forum. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but let's not start giving people medical diagnoses and handing The Register another lovely quote. Mostly I'd suggest people just ignore him, that tends to work fairly well.

Well, if they quote me that'll be my problem. I'll explain that my qualifier "Practically" is meant to be understood as "He acts like someone might assume he is..." I don't speak for Wikipedia/Wikimedia, and I've been following the Overstock/Byrne issue in the news since it first unfolded. He is litigious, but there's no risk to WMF. I considered leaving that part out, but the fact is his activity requires a strong adjective to be accurate.

The fact remains that this is the English Wikipedia mailing list, a public forum, and ad hominem statements about anyone here are inappropriate.

Did your friend request to be on overstock's mailing list? If not then it's "spam".
