For the 45% of Americans who are Creationists
Off topic, but is it really this high? I'd heard lower.
I guess like all surveys and statistics, it depends how you ask the question and how you work the data ...
Hm. Reminds me of the journalist who lived on New York's Upper West Side. She said, "No one I know voted for Reagan." Boy, was /she/ surprised when he beat Carter by a landslide in 1980.
Uncle Ed "There are 3 kinds of statisticians, those who can count and those who can't."
We should move this offlist.

According to a survey released the other day, "half the atheists and agnostics surveyed believed that everyone had a soul, that heaven and hell existed and that there was life after death. One in eight atheists and agonistics believe that accepting Jesus Christ as savior probably makes life after death possible."

So, you know, not to disparage anyone's personal beliefs or anything, but really it seems that people believe all manner of, ah, interesting things.

I'd be curious to see a similar study elsewhere in the world, basically on any other major continent (Africa, Asia or Europe) for comparison, I guess the views wouldn't be so... mixed.

I note the use of the past tense in these statments. Saying that life after death (or eternal life) once existed but no longer does has some interesting logical implications. ;-)

Believed, and the other sentence say believe. So, this probably means that they believed before they became atheists/agnostics.

Agnostic is one who believe that it could not be proven whether God exists or not. It is nothing wrong for some agnostics to believe that something PROBABLY makes life after death possible.
