you're violating the rules, and you can't do that, period", you're going

Indeed, and we have users that do this. There are two things about such
people that may shock list readers:
1) They're wrong
2) Even if they were right about "you can't do that, period", they
probably understand policy less than you do, and are utterly wrong
about it in this instance. See: Broken Telephone Effect.
