In addition to the Wikipedia software, I would also
like
to use or adapt a number of protected pages (e.g., guidelines on how
to create an article). I am not planning to make any changes to those
pages as they exist in Wikipedia, but in order to cut-and-paste the
information into my own project, I will need sysop status.
I suspect that Sheldon can be trusted, but there is a more general solution.
In order for Wikipedia to be as open source as possible,
we should change the "Protected page" non-link
that non-administrators see instead of "Edit this page"
to "View this page's source", which will give them
an edit page with no submit button.
Then Sheldon -- or anybody else -- can copy the wiki code.
