I suppose I'm just considering the lack of infrastructure. Getting
paper copies is one thing. Getting cheap, disposable laptops that
require electricity is a bit harder. But cheap internet access?

When subsaharan internet access
becomes more widespread, it is likely
to be on mobile-phone-per-village basis rather than a
computer-per-person one -- it'll be interesting to see what the added
chokepoint will do to the article-writing process.
ISTR the wind-up laptops I've seen discussed have built-in networking, and
form ad-hoc networks automagically.
So connecting a bunch of them up to the Internet might not be so
far-fetched...
