The best way to deal with this in my opinion is to always have the
reference for the statistics handy. That way you can always revert and
say, "Sorry, that's not what the reference says. Provide a new one if
you want, but the numbers have to match up." Personally, I'm less
concerned that the figures are "right" and more concerned that they
match our cited reference for them, because if they are wrong in the
latter case it isn't our fault.
I've seen people up company employee rolls by 1 person -- I assume it
is a somewhat unhelpful way of celebrating getting a new job.
As for a name... howabout... number bumping? Not very harmonious,
sounds somewhat like mathematical fornication...
