Wikipedia has never pretended to aim to contain all human knowledge
regardless of copyright law - after all, there is an awful lot of
'knowledge' out there that Wikipedia could copy illegally (e.g. the
entire contents of Encarta, for example). Wikipedia's aims can't
overrule copyright law.
True. But by insisting that Wikipedia
be self-contained, there is knowledge
that Wikipedia has chosen to exclude,
even though links to it can be released
freely.
