The impression I got from that article is that Larry Sanger left,
because he felt he wasn't supported in his fight to keep Wikipedia
running; because there were not enough rules to ban vandals and other
troublesome editors.
It may be relevant for our discussion about the "structure" of Wikipedia
to see Larry's ideas for a workable environment to write an
encyclopedia:

Marc (Riddell), does that mail from Larry describe more or less what you
mean by the "structure" that is necessary for Wikipedia? If so, you now
have a nice /in vivo/ experiment.
