We're not professional. Except for a tiny bunch of people who work
for the Foundation, we're all volunteers and our time is not
especially coordinated. Wikipedia is what it is, and part of that is
that we've grown faster than our organization has.
In particular, our IT resources have always been stretched, and the
people we do have have been busy keeping the place running. In a
stretched organization, things only get fixed when they become real
problems.
All I'm surprised about is that it took this long for someone to try
some serious password attempts.
