Tain't so. We'd probably need a strong consensus to make an exception
to policy of that magnitude.
Ok, I didn't really catch the original wave of angst, but unlike other
wikis, I haven't noticed a strong "you must refactor" vibe for talk
pages at Wikipedia. Most people seem to prefer that their
contributions be left alone, and on the rare occasions that one does
refactor, there tend to be copious apologies and explanations of what
one is doing.
Purely an observation. My first ever messages on my talk page were
complaints from someone due to my deleting old discussions off article
talk pages.
