Any idea why, and if it's salvageable?
The mailing list server(s) suffered some sort of catastrophic meltdown
and the data they contained was lost. The developers had to reinstate
a week-old backup of the entire mailing list server, including bans
and subscriptions (on multiple, if not all, lists). This meant that
users who had unsubscribed during that week started getting list mail
again and those who had subscribed stopped getting the mail. It was
very inconvenient.
I'm not sure if it would be possible to salvage that gap in the
archives. Sure, many people have list emails archived in their mail
programs, but how would we transfer them across? This is a question
for the Brion Vibbers and Tim Starlings of this world.
