I agree. I think Wikipedia:Canvassing is mostly supported because
people like having their own little private "consensus" off in some
corner of Wikipedia.
Even then, it's never prohibited Wikipedia users talking about
Wikipedia events in other forums, public or private. It mentions
email, but as far as I can see it's more oriented towards abuse of
'Email this user'.
