On her blog last week, Kelly Martin posed the question of how many
page views are of protected content. I thought that was a really
interesting question, so I've hacked up some stats on protection and
on page views over here:

Hi all;
For anyone who might be interested, I've set up a Wikipedia group on the
Upoc SMS site.
The URL for the group is:
http://upoc.com/group.jsp?group=wikipedia
Not sure of what uses the group could be put to, but I imagine it could be
useful when quick action is needed for something.

We should have a special unit to deal with these.

I know the last time there was a suicide gesture, there were some
recommendations to post to this list, I believe.

Marvellous! I've been wondering why someone doesn't develop one of
these for ages :-)
We have a lot of ambiguity over the rights of coats of arms - a lot of
the time, we claim a modern artistic depiction is public domain
because the underlying "description" is public domain, and that's a
fairly iffy claim. Something like this helps us cut out a lot of the
potential legal iffiness...

And contrariwise. If the community was up-in-arms about something, the
foundation could not stop the natural progression of that *something*. No matter

Physical possession is no longer 9/10ths of the law, when 9/10ths of the
asset is non-physical.

You will never get me to agree that any rules are imposed upon us, outside
of US law.
All the rest are created from within the project.

I don't think that's true. As I understand it, NPOV (as a basic

principles of the use of non-free content.>>
-----------------------------
The general principle, with no specific language is a founding core
principle. This does mean it was imposed *by* the foundation, and they in-fact don't
impose it today. It was a founding principle for the project as a whole,
which means *us*. All of the specific language describing the policy was
created by consensus.
We, the project, the community, impose the policies upon ourselves.

None of our policy is "imposed from on high", it was all created by
consensus. And it can still change by consensus.
The only thing with which we stated was very vague general concepts.
Go back to the *first* edition of NOR and compare it to today's edition.

The Mediation Cabal has no power to intervene. Medcom is limited to dealing with cases where both parties agree and there are no investigative powers. Something must have gotten to the point where it is fairly serious for Arbcom even to look at it.
