Hey everyone,
Harmonia Amanda and I are thinking about adjustments to the showcase item (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Showcase_items)%C2%A0process. Currently, making a item a showcase item takes a very long time due to a unclear process.
The new process is described here: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Harmonia_Amanda/Showcase_items
I already added some notes to the talk page (https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User_talk:Harmonia_Amanda/Showcase_items)%C2%A... things I want some opinions about. Please leave your comments there, so we can highlight our best content better. :) Greetings, Sjoerd de Bruin
Dear all,
I have been watching that space for a while and I still cannot clearly figure out where we are. So, be indulgent if I missed something.
Let me explain where I am as a potential future user of wikidata:
- I do a lot of work on sports for which I have an ontology which I use in different proof of concepts in connection with my colleagues at the EBU / Eurovision, which is involved in many sport events and in relation with as many sport federations.
- I need access to web resurces to collect more data about athlete but also about e.g. locations of sport events. Looking at the athlete case...
- I do gather data from dbpedia. It is relatively straightforward to access dbpedia pages by formatting the url from the names of athletes, which allows me to access the rdf files and get the data I need.
- I DO NOT know where to start with wikdata URL using KEYS like https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q104192
- Furthermore, I have been using the sparql endpoint and did some queries on some athlete, without success. I do not understand this because if I google wikidata and the name of the athlete, then I can find a wikidata page. What is the missing link.
I have limited time and so far, my experience with wikidata is not conclusive.
Maybe this could help you building a procedure that would help newcomers get into adopting wikidata?
Best regards,
Jean-Pierre

Aren't showcase there to help people getting used to it?
I am telling you, the showcase as their are introduced do not help me.
Wrong answer? Wrong forum? Wrong solution?
