Previous research has focused on analyzing aspects of current contributors and aspects of the existing Wikipedia community to explain this gender gap in contributions. Instead, we analyze data about both Wikipedia contributors and non-contributors. We also focus on a previously ignored factor: people’s Internet skills. Our data set includes a diverse group of American young adults with detailed information about their background attributes, Internet experiences and skills. We find that the gender gap in editing is exacerbated by a similarly important Internet skills gap. By far the most likely people to contribute to Wikipedia are males with high Internet skills. Our findings suggest that efforts to overcome the gender gap in Wikipedia contributions must address the Web-use skills gap. Future research needs to look at why high-skilled women do not contribute at comparable rates to highly-skilled men. > > >

The extracted knowledge, comprising more than 1.8 billion facts, is structured according to an ontology maintained by the community. The knowledge is obtained from different Wikipedia language editions, thus covering more than 100 languages, and mapped to the community ontology. The resulting data sets are linked to more than 30 other data sets in the Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud. The DBpedia project was started in 2006 and has meanwhile attracted large interest in research and practice. Being a central part of the LOD cloud, it serves as a connection hub for other data sets. For the research community, DBpedia provides a testbed serving real world data spanning many domains and languages. Due to the continuous growth of Wikipedia, DBpedia also provides an increasing added value for data acquisition, re-use and integration tasks within organisations. Google knowledge graph timeline

Surely you know about the "infoboxes" Google now places next to (many) search results: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_Graph There's been a lot of speculation around the effects they have on the resources they link and pick data from, I'm not so interested in continuing with that. What I've been looking for in the last few months without success is an authoritative list/timeline of the languages/countries the feature has been enabled or expanded for. As you can see on the article, we only know that it was introduced in May 2012 and expanded to 7 more languages in December; and, per one blog, expanded a lot in July 2013. This is not enough. If you know any important date/event/whatever, please add to the article (or to the talk page or here if you have no source). Nemo

For this reason, M&S is gaining a primary role in many industrial and research fields, such as space, critical infrastructures, manufacturing, emergency management, biomedical systems and sustainable future. However, as the complexity of the investigated systems increases and the types of investigations widens, the cost of M&S activities increases for the more complex models and for the communications among a wider number and variety of M&S stakeholders (e.g., sub-domain experts, simulator users, simulator engineers, and final system users). To address the increasing costs of M&S activities, collaborative technologies must be introduced to support these activities by fostering the sharing and reuse of models, by facilitating the communications among M&S stakeholders, and more generally by integrating processes, tools and platforms. Aside from seeking applications of collaborative technologies to M&S activities, the track seeks innovative contributions that deal with the application of M&S practices in the field of collaborative engineering platforms. These platforms are continuously becoming more complex, and therefore their design requires systematic approaches to meet the required quality of collaboration. This is important for two reasons: to reduce rework activities on the actual collaborative environment, and to maximize the productivity and the quality of the process the collaborative environment supports. M&S offers the methodologies and tools for such investigations and therefore it can be used to improve the quality of collaborative environments. Polling the watcher's of a page. Possible?

Hello Research, It it possible to query for the watchers of a page? It does not seem to be in the API, nor is the "watchers" or "wl_user" table in the Data Base replicas (where I thought MediaWiki stores it. I imagine this is for privacy reasons, correct? If so, how would one gain access? I have been talking with an "econophysicist" who thinks that we could apply a "contagion" algorithm, to see which edits are "contagious".
