Dear colleagues,
After a bit of Web search, I get the impression that a screenshot
of Wikipedia page will involve three copyright licences: (1) text is
CC-BY-SA, (2) software/inteface is GPLv2 and (3) Wikipedia logo is not
released under any free license at all.
So the question is: What is your past experience in using
screenshots of Wikipedia content? I have only published an article
through the US-based IEEE publishing body, with my assumption (which
could be wrong) that it is covered by fair use in the US. Now I am
not so sure when I try to publish in UK.
Please do share your experience as I am more curious about other
researchers' practice now. Do you ask for permission? Do you simply
remove the logo? Do you just assume that the US fair use provision
works for you?
Best,
han-teng liao
