Hello all -
RACHEL[1], a project of World Possible focused on getting open courseware and educational materials into remote areas via an offline repository, is updating their materials and is hoping to get an updated version of offline English Wikipedia. Has there been any advancement in this by the Wikipedia 1.0 team? I haven't heard for awhile, so am not sure how to respond to the below request from Noberto!
FYI, here is a cool video of a class using Wikipedia via the RACHEL repository: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsiJH64zEe4&lr=1
Thanks and hope all are well - Jessie

Hi Jessie
Hope you are doing great. I was releasing 2 new versions of RACHEL this past weekend, and I was wondering if there is a new version of Wikipedia offline, like 3 years old we have in our RACHEL repository. How is your project doing?
Cheers Norberto
Jessie,
Our last official release done by the EN:WP Wikipedia 1.0 team was Version 0.8, released in March, 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Version_0.8
We are starting to work on Version 0.9, but we are awaiting a response from Erik Moeller regarding servers for hosting WikiTrust (used to filter out vandalism). We do at last have some new people to run our bot, and they are putting together an article list at the moment. If everything can progress without holdups, I think it's realistic that we will have a new collection ready for launch by this summer.
However, that will be another GENERAL release which has not been filtered for kids (though WikiTrust allows us to avoid vandalized versions of articles). I notice that the video shows the use of the 2008 "Wikipedia for Schools" that was put together by User:BozMo + volunteers, and released through a UK children's charity (in consultation with the 1.0 team). I'm not aware of any new releases for kids, but it would be great if we could do one.
Regards, Martin

Great - thank you, Martin! I will pass along the information for Wikipedia 0.8, and also reach out to the Wikipedia for Schools team to see what their progress is.
