Hello,
perhaps somebody see or feel that we have now a higher load on Server
Ptolemy[1], the reason is that we render and deliver since 2 days the
tiles for the small map inside german Geohack[2].
So we want try to reduce the load to
openstreetmap.org servers and want
to optimize our own rendering process.
(In the moment we have a fallback to tiles from
openstreetmap.org if we
are not able to deliver tiles in 5 secondes.)
The later plan is to go live with tools like the OSM-Gadget[3] for every
user in the german Wikipedia (Without killing the OSM-Servers!!!).
I hope we can do this step in nearly a month.
With this experience I think we can than better force the usage of
interactive maps directly inside articles.(Extension:Maps)
