*Wikiradio* is a real-time audio service transmitted via the Internet. This
service offers various stations, covering all genres of music and even
including recordings of Wikipedia articles on different languages, all of
which are available on Wikimedia Commons. Each sound is chosen by the
community to be highlighted as some of the finest work on Wikipedia and the
Wikimedia Commons.
What is Wikiradio?
Rather than listening to several audio files in Wikimedia Commons, which
require clicking "play" one after another on each one, the wikiradio
<https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikiradio> tools works not as a radio streaming
service, but instead as a synchronized (with UTC time) set of tracks so
that everybody can hear at the same time, simulating a radio.
How I can add my station?[edit
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikiradio_(tool)&action=edit&s…>
]
1. Create a page in meta with your dayparting
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dayparting> with your music list
like *[[Wikiradio
(tool)/playlist/<my_Station>]]*ej: for clasic music station we have
Wikiradio
(tool)/playlist/classic
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiradio_(tool)/playlist/classic>
2. Edit the Template:Wikiradio (tool)/stations
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Wikiradio_(tool)/stations> and
add your station like *{{RadioUrl|<my_station>|<My_station>}}*,ej, for
classic music we have {{RadioUrl|classic|Classic}}
3. Ready, now you can listen your music in wikiradio
<https://tools.wmflabs.org/wikiradio> !!
*Note:* Alternatively, you can archive your dayparting and ask for an
administrator to protect those pages. How work Wikiradio software?
Wikiradio load javascript pages dynamically from meta pages to make the
dayparting. This is thus in order that the community can choose the music
to be placed in these pages. Please edit the page of the station when you
want hear your music.
Some ideas for stations include the spoken Wikipedia
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/spoken_Wikipedia> audios, music by genre
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Audio_files_of_music> and
topics like ambient audio
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Sounds_of_nature>. But we can
do it better. Hourly, a signal is heard
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Busy_tone_(France).ogg> to warn about
o'clock hours, like a real radio :p. Even better we could add a "You are
listening wikiradio, the free radio" spoken message every half hour, and
other stuff.
Each radio station load a dayparting from a wikipage in meta like
"Wikiradio (tool)/playlist/<my_radio_station>" (ej: Wikiradio
(tool)/playlist/classic
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiradio_(tool)/playlist/classic>) and it
could be archived.
Finally, the main station could use music to fill the gaps of a daily radio
programming based on Wikimania conferences, wiki podcasts, etc. So, what do
you think? Your help is welcome, picking new tracks for any station or
suggesting your ideas. Thanks. (Soure here

Dear all,
This is to inform you that the assessment phase for the submissions we
received for our "Critical Issues" talks at Wikimania 2016 is in progress.
The reviews are, however, taking more time than initially expected; the
members of the Programme Committee needed some effort to get familiar with
the EasyChair conference platform we are using, which, as I can testify
having configured it and managed it so far, is not entirely intuitive to
interact with. Needing more time to complete the reviews, we have to
postpone the date of the notification of acceptance to February 1st. If you
need further information, please do not hesitate to ask.
Sorry for the inconvenience to all who are affected,
Best regards,
Michele Lavazza
(Wikimania 2016 Programme Committe)
Hello all!
Two days ago, around the 15th birthday of Wikipedia, the Dutch Wikipedia
community awarded in seven categories the users and projects most valued
for their contributions to Wikipedia in the past year.
In seven categories a WikiOwl has been awarded, symbolizing the ancient
Greek owl for wisdom and knowledge. Free knowledge!
The WikiOwls given recognition and appreciation for all the work done by
the users and their projects. Recognition and appreciation that stimulates
and gives much enthusiasm to enrich the world of free knowledge even more,
essential for Wikipedia's continuation.
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiUilenhttps://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiUilen/2015https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WikiUilen_2015_%283%29.jpghttps://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WikiEule2015-DD1.JPGhttps://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WikiEulen_2.jpg
This makes me think again about Wikimania in the past years. The
conferences are great and have a nice program. At the same time I sense
something important is missing. I miss in the large plenary sessions the
attention for specific users and their projects that are of most value for
the movement.
Wikimania is the conference intended for contributors to share their
experiences, learn about best practises, work together to use the synergy
to get done more. That is what this community conference is about.
Hopefully we will fill this small but important gap of the plenary
session(s) with the coming Wikimania, and have more attention for the
specific contributions that we as community value most. Let's have many
many users inspired by great ideas that they can bring home and into
practise.
Thank you.
Romaine

we had one at Frankfurt, at the very first Wikimania.
I planed also to do one at the next Wikimania, maybe we should join forces?
Sincerely,
DaB.

Dear Colleagues,
I’m writing to seek your feedback on the consultation to improve Wikimania,
open until 18 January 2016. If you have already contributed, we are most
grateful.
The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania
to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad
community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in
2018).
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab/Towards_a_New_Wikimania
Feedback on both of these goals is welcome on a survey provided on the
project page, and can also be given on the project discussion page. In
addition, I also invite you to share any personal experiences you have had
at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to
compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.
I look forward to working with you to develop a Wikimania that better
serves the needs of your communities.
With thanks,
Ellie Young

Dear all,
I'm writing to inform you that the deadline to submit a presentation
proposal for Wikimania 2016 has been extended. *The new deadline is
January 17th*.
We received some complaints about the fact that the deadline has been
anticipated with a too short notice and in a holiday period for a lot of
people. We regret this miscommunication and we hope that the new
deadline will make things better. The reason why we decided to not
reinstate the initial deadline (January 31th) is that we don't want
to be too distant from the scholarship committee timing, in order to
take into account the contribution that the participants will give to
the conference and the kind of topics which are going to be discussed
during it [1].
We know that we are a movement of very committed and hardworking people,
who can make wonderful things in two weeks!
Before submitting a proposal, don't forget to read more about the
structure of the programme:
https://wikimania2016.wikimedia.org/wiki/Programme
and about the kind of presentation formats we will have during Wikimania
2016 [2]:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_2016_bids/Esino_Lario/Sessions/Pr…
For any suggestion about the user digest presentations you can refer to
the liaisons[3] or to me.
In the next month(s) we will set up the collection of discussions and
posters proposals.
Thank you,
Ginevra
General Coordinator, Wikimania 2016 Programme Committee
[1] Just to be clear: this doesn't mean that people who are presenting
during Wikimania will automatically receive a scholarship. The Programme
Committee and the Scholarship Committee are two indipendent bodies, but
we think that the process of knowing who will come and what we will talk
about should not be too disconnected.

documentary. The 30 minutes full version will be released soon on a
premiere in the Cineteca Nacional (Mexican Film Archives) where a copy will
be kept for the future and in TV educational channels with national reach.
