He's described as a newspaper columnist, which may well be notable enough on its own.
I know the particular newspaper is thought of badly in many circles, but that doesn't mean that it and its staff aren't notable.

One of the big crackdowns on BLPs was surely "notability by association" - ok the guys dad was famous but is he? the fact that his kids think he is and a few misguided editors (catholic, smoker wt??) do, doesn't mean that I think that a few paragraphs in a newspaper make him notable.
