Someone might take it that way. (And apparently
somoneone did.)

effective way of going about things, and it allows other people to
give feedback (as, say, with the useful notes about how many of them
are inactive, which is vaguely interesting) which would not be an
option with fifty or so talkpage messages

50 is not so many - it's just like clearing a
small backlog or cleaning up a set of articles
