Then the argument is getting pretty thin, that we could possibly have
an article on this. Could we link to a site that links to a site that
publishes the number? How many degrees of recursion would it have to
go before it's "safe"? And what if those sites who do publish the
number or link to it are the best sources?
Also, we're not -just- talking NYT. (If we were, I'd be reticent
myself, one of those very stories inaccurately stated that we'd gotten
a C&D!) We're talking Wired, NYT, Youtube (and by extension,
Google)... If they really want to make a fight out of this, they'd
have quite a few heavyweights to take on.
Though, I don't remember the last time the NYT actually got -sued- successfully.

Not a good way to decide your own course. Things can and have gone horribly wrong at the
New York Times.
