Gmane is such a server, it's news.gmane.org. It's not part of USENET so it's not included in the Google index. Anyone with access to NNTP (on port 119) and a newsreader (Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc.) can access it.
I use Gmane, with my mailing list subscriptions set to "nomail" in my mailman preferences.
