I am DragonFire1024 on the English Wikinews. I am wondering if there are any Wikinewsies in: New York, Montreal, Houston TX, London, Melbourne Australia, and Los Angeles California.
If so, please contact me. The group known as "Anonymous"is planning "unspecified" action against the CoS on February 10, 2008. They mention the above cities specifically.
So anyone on the list in or near those areas please contact me ASAP.
P.S. we already have 2 people going to London, but more is encouraged.

Lol - I was a bit puzzled by this email - but for those just a puzzled the "Anonymous Hackers" group seems to be a small band of creative hackers. Not sure why the Church of Scientology is their target. Not sure how newsworthy it is either.
Mike
While they're planning some big protest in the real world (or so they say), and that is newsworthy.

Jason, I do think this Anonymous phenomenon is quite interesting, and given Wikinewsies acumen with net culture and its own CoS issues in Wikipedia, it could be a good area to cover.
But perhaps a bit of clarification -- are you interested in Wikinewsies to *cover* such protest events, or to participate in them (as per the subject). The reason for asking, is the latter is generally frowned upon as a practice by journalists, as newsgatherers should be doing that -- gathering, and not being the news. But I do look forward to some discussion about the "anon" matter.

Obviously, he means report, I would cover it but there's not a Scientology center near Boston at least to my knowledge.

I have started organising this at http://skenmy.com/Anonymous_protests_coverage - I'm videographing (lol) London. If you are able to attend any of the events as listed on the pages at http://skenmy.com/Anonymous_protests_info then please make yourself known!

I am trying to attend NYC...no promises, but trying.

In the absence - so far - of an official response from the Church of Scientology I'm continuing to look for contacts from the anti-CoS side. I've emailed the contact for Operation Clambake asking if I can forward on anything I get from the Church for their opinion. I would like to see us hold off for a bit and get a comprehensive story on the subject.

I still would like to get as many reporters to the selecte cities as possible. This could be our first major original international report. Pictures, quotes or anything is helpful.
Also the protest calls for ALL CoS HQ'a to have protests, but the highlighted cities i first mentioned are the ones they are hyping up.

Yes of course. The goal is to be there on a news reporting level of course. I am calling for reporters to go there to report on the protest.

Jason and others,
Sorry (really, really sorry), I had volunteered to Jason to help cover this, but having spent a couple of hours interacting with the "wiki" I have realised again that it is not something I can be a part of. I do not need to build stress and anger in my daily life, any more than it is forced on me from the outside world.
Below is my parting contribution, visible on my User page until hopefully someone deletes those. I will try to keep a note for myself in a strategic location, sufficient to prevent me wasting more time, but well-enough hidden not to continue to cause me anguish, so that I do not waste our time again.
I'm sure there is a place in the world for what "wikinews" lets people do, I just don't think it's accurate to call it a wiki, and I think you may actually find it works better if you call it what it is, and model it more closely on a hierarchical Content Management System format. The same goes for Wikipedia, incidentally, but they at least let the users continue to edit the pages _even after the original poster has stopped looking at (and "protecting") "their" baby_.
In fact, ever since wikiscanner became publicised, I have had no problems whatsoever with officiousness on wikipedia .. which _used_ to be unavoidable. I really really dislike the wikiscanner idea, but I wonder if judicious application of it against wikinews might help free up the works somewhat?
Anyway, here is my final wikinews copy, see http://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=User:Simeon&diff=570403&old...
------------------------------------------- == Oh forget it ==
Having re-visited Wikinews briefly after a long hiatus, I had positive hopes. But I see that Really Stupid Policy (TM) (and officious behaviour towards users) is still in effect, and so I will not be back again. Please delete my 'user' pages. Like wikipedia, [[This Is Not A Wiki]], and sadly, here the beauracrats have found even more excuses to restrict its use. I see this as namespace squatting, a form of DoS. -- Simeon 04:03, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
