Assunto: [Wmfcc-l] State of Wikipedia video
Hi all - today a digital creative shop called JESS3 (focussing on branding,
animation, data viz) released their visual 'case study' about Wikipedia:
http://www.thestateofwikipedia.com/
Which primarily includes a video voiced by the one and only Jimbo Wales, and
also some nice re-viz of some cool facts.
JESS3 did this almost all on their own, but with the very fortunate help of
Wikipedian and communicator extraordinaire William Beutler.
It's a pretty darn accurate script, and I think it will get a lot of
traction in the social media space - maybe even some straight up media
attention. A brilliant follow-up to WP 10.
WMF is not officially involved with this, just so you know. This is one of
several of their 'state of' case studies they've done - more or less to
showcase their work, and to show their love for projects they care about.
Moka did have some conversations with the producers and William over the
last month to help get the data right.
Right now they will be adding some more direct statements about the CC
license of the work (a bit hidden right now). It will be CCBYSA. We also
have access to a nice, high-res version of the video for presentations and
other work.
We'll also do a short blog post about this later today - just driving some
traffic to this useful resource and spreading it to the community.
Thanks,
jay
