I thank you Jimbo I apologize to all of you collectively for my emotional dismay, which also show me I must take a break. Given that I am a hopeless wikipediholic, I will try to take holidays from the en wiki. And focus on non controversial matters on fr such as GMO and Moonism :-) perhaps promotion, if we have favorable news from the dev team.

A good plan - it's very easy to get wrapped up in serious debate, but that takes away the enjoyment - and yet there are thousands of "fun" articles to add, noncontroversial content that is a necessary part of a comprehensive encyclopedia. In the space of eight months I've seen a bunch of heavy-duty contributors burn out and leave when the fighting overshadows content creation, so I think we need to watch out for signs of burnout and encourage each other to explore new and different areas that will be re-energizing to work on.

Not to mention -- that this is free and donated time. IOW - a hobby. When the rent checks start piling up, its best to put the vandal-chasing and the article arguing away for a while.

I believe that this indicates that we need a better way to agree (or at least act) on controversial matters.
It is good advice anywhere to avoid burning out on unimportant issues, but that seems especially true at Wikipedia. The amount of frustration that editors suffer trying to resolve something over a single article is high, because the process is unclear, and because of the wide range of attitudes of those involved in the decisions.
