" I also met the guy who invented Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales, and video game designer Rob Pardo, who couldn't believe he'd been invited. James, Wales and Pardo were all on the 100 list."
And
"Meantime, I left the Time Warner center just as my pal Ann Coulter was busy chastising Jimmy Wales about her Wikipedia entry, and finding out from him how to change it. Listen, you Wikipedians, be nice to Ann Coulter. I leave you with this thought: she's got great legs no matter what her politics are, and you're lucky she has a sense of humor, too."
How is it that Fox can get "Wikipedians" right, when even articles *about* Wikipedia came up with "Wikitopians"?

Because Fox is fair and balanced. One day it's Wikitopians, one day it's Wikipedians.
It's Fox's entertainment gossip. They aren't held to the same "reporting" standards as the "news". Equally ironic, the entertainment "reporters" apparently lack an actual sense of humor.
This does bring up the question, are "news" and PR broadcasters blocked from Wiki like congress? Or can Coulter, Rush, and Oreilly edit their entries with the aid of their staff?

Is Jimbo and/or Danny (his staff) blocked from editing [[Jimmy Wales]]?

No. Wales has controversially done so before, and has been accused of attempting to play down Sanger's involvement with founding the Wikipedia project.

See WP:AUTO. Editing your own article is strongly discouraged, as is editing any topic which you are too close to. If one of them edited their own article they would probably get a warning from the other editors. If they edited their own articles they way the write/speak, it would get reverted anyway, even if no one knew it was them. But most celebrities have too big egos to edit anonymously.
Jimmy can't get outside the door without being accosted by some pissed-off semi-celebrity about their wikipedia entry, can he :P
Also, I LIKE wikitopeans. I wish we'd thought of it first.....

Wait until her next book comes out. Then she might have a reason to be pissed off.

Does anybody else find it interesting how so many of these people's top concerns about WP revolve around the articles about themselves? No doubt Coulter could find a thousand articles that represent conservative viewpoints poorly and need improvement, but in this little episode she reveals what she really cares about the most.

Seems reasonable. If you had a Wikipedia article about you, wouldn't you be concerned about it?

Heh, good call.
(I've often speculated about what is the least effort I would need to go to do do something notable enough to get a Wikipedia article. What's sad is my father and my best friend are both notable enough, as is my mother if all academics are notable. I work for a notable company, producing a notable product. I have participated in notable events, been photographed by a notable photographer, ...but I'm not notable. Guess the best I can do for my ego is sneak a photo of myself in somewhere, pretending I'm an innocent bystander who got in the way of a photo...)

Get a gun start killing people (idealy kids) in a first world anglophile nation. Or just kill one person of significance. In terms of short term effort crime is probably your best bet. Second would be dying in some notable way. Throw yourself under GWB's motercade or something.
Assumeing you want to do something that would not completly mess up the rest of your life politician may be an option. Some of the less major olympic sports might be worth a try.

They are not. All academics above a certian level are generaly accapted as notable

Find somewhere near you with an article then take a photo of yourself next to some monument there and upload it to wikipedia.

Welcome to Wikipedia. We endorse mindless violence and a disregard for others in exchange for free-licencing of contributions and a brief altruistic feeling.

No. But due to our notabilty requirements on some level reflecting the media, killers in first would countries get noticed. For maxium visibilty make sure your victems are white, minors and female.
For a rather extream example more people have herd of [[Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold]] than [[Lars Onsager]]

They mess up thier lives somewhat less then serial killers. A backbench MP who servers for only one term may well walk away with only minor scars. A back bench EMP may do even better.

That's a lot of effort. Actually I suspect that causing a Seigenthalergate would be the easiest.

Doubtful. You would have to be rather lucky. Most bio errors don't have that effect.

Actually, there are pictures of me on Wikipedia, mainly modeling certain gestures on [[Gesture]].

The maturer response to this:
Well, he could still be being...what's that word..."offensive". Depends on the gestures, doesn't it?
The immature response to this:
Why not combine both?

Ah, there you've got me. There are a couple of pictures in Wikipedia which have me in them. But there is a good reason in each case, namely lack of a better free-use picture. In my collection, at any rate. There was one contributor who made a point of being photographed in front of notable objects, then including the picture in the articles for those subjects with a link in the caption to his own article (he has one). I think I did away with most of them by now, though.

Heh. I think that's a case of "a bad picture is better than no picture", but yeah, I would certainly replace that kind of image with one without the person. Unless of course, the person was subtle enough (like I was suggesting) to make themselves look like they were accidentally caught in the picture, and they were only surreptitiously present.
Hey, there's a great wikiproject. WikiProject:WheresWally (or WheresWaldo as appropriate). Try and spot wikipedians in images spread around Wikipedia :)
I love it...I love it...try and spot my foot face in the crowd of people at Mont St-Michel, catch my backpack next to the cathedral at [[Rennes]]... (fictitious examples...for now...)

At last count, I was only in [[Recumbent Bicycle]] and [[Velovision]]. The former because my friend Liz sent me a truly excellent action shot of Sacha lapping me in a race, and the latter because the current issue has me on the cover. My bikes (without me) are featured in [[Brompton Bicycle]] (must get some better ones now it's not dark in the evenings), [[Bicycle lighting]] and [[Hub dynamo]] I think.

Indeed. It entirely fails to communicate the utter elegance of the design. It is far too negative.

That completely avoids the question though. Even celebrities don't like to be publically criticised, we just happen to have a right to do it anyway.
What I'm saying is, while I think the public's right to know about Ann Coulter outweighs any embarrassment she might suffer, I don't blame her for being concerned over the way she's depicted. I don't even find it particularly surprising or "interesting".
