I had the same question. I've just recently subscribed, and it seems that my posts don't go on for a while. I don't mind, we need to check emails for spam and that sort of thing, but how long does this go on for? I couldn't find any info on that.

Once your first mail has reached the list this should mean you are unmoderated and any sent after this will have no lag. Occasionally errors are made, so be patient.

Also, if you're using gmail (not sure about other clients), when you send an email to the list, you won't see it in your inbox until someone responds to it (though there may be a way to change this in preferences). A good way of finding out if your mail has been sent is to check the archives: http://mail.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/
