That said, articles on food should be encouraged. It
needn't be discouraging for new users to submit a
recipe, only to have it moved--a note on a talk page,

I've seen many more recipes on VfD recently than there
used to be.
That I'll agree with. The vast majority of recipes don't need to be
deleted--they need to be refactored as encyclopedia articles. At the
very least it should be possible to replace a recipe for [[Flan]] with a
stub saying "'''Flan''' is a [[dessert]] made from ...,
commonly eaten
in [list of countries]...". Of course, perhaps the recipe should also
be moved to WikiBooks, because there is some interest in eventually
producing an actual cookbook. But in either case it's rarely necessary
to actually delete the article completely (in some cases moving it from,
say, [[How to cook a turkey]] to [[turkey (food)]] might be necessary,
but that doesn't need VfD either).
