Let me defend the asymmetry for a moment.
I think it's perfectly reasonable to refrain from some practices
ourselves, because we think they aren't good, while still giving other
people a lot of leeway to pursue their own interests, even if we
disagree.
This is similar to the distinction between what you _have the right_
to do, versus what you _ought_ to do. You have the right to smoke
cigarettes in the privacy of your own home if you want. I'd advise
against it, as it's proven to be unhealthy. But it would be wrong of
me to try to stop you.
There are often cases where I think it'd be better to not create a
certain type of page, but where I think that if someone else did, it's
better to just let them do it, even if I wouldn't have.
