"The Art Of SEO For Wikipedia & 16 Tips To Gain Respect"
On face value, this article could be the best I've ever seen from our perspective. To summarise the recommendations: "Don't be a dick."
But I want to run it past the rabid ferrets of wikien-l for your view. Is this guy actually on the level?

The target of the article obviously seems to be SEO people, and the business-types, but yeah, it seems to be saying "be a good person on Wikipedia and good things will follow". People will always end up doing stuff for private business reasons, or whatever, being basic encyclopediac altruism. This article seems to be saying just do it by the rules and play nice.

From what point of view?
"Develop a profile that looks like an upstanding member of the community."
keep you intentions good an hidden
"Reach out to the user who reverted your edit and ask them for clarification and what you could do differently so that you address his/her concerns."
Take advantage of the fact that most people on at least some level will not immediately think you are a dick
6 isn't quite true but that is a copyright issue so fairly normal
9 is worrying
10 suggests messing with wikipedia's organisation of information which we really don't want
"Make friends"
under false pretences. Real nice.
"There's a place for SEOs in Wikipedia"
Only if they are not trying to promote their website. Otherwise that place is in our blocklog.

Is it possible to be an SEO and love Wikipedia for being Wikipedia? I'd hope so.

I'm sure it's possible in theory. And one day it might even happen in practice.
Or maybe it's already happening and we just haven't noticed.
