I started a survey a while ago to find out what factors people consider important when they are giving their opinion on requests for adminship, it's had some good responses so far and I'm announcing it again here to involve a wider audience:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Factors
The responses so far have been interesting. There are some trends developing:
* some factors are broadly considered important by most people (eg, candidate's history of interaction with other users),
* some factors are not considered important on their own, but can be good indicators of other important factors (eg, involvement with collaborative efforts - not important as a factor but a useful indicator of interaction with other users), and
* some factors are not considered important at all (eg, whether candidate has demonstrated a "need" for the tools).
I haven't seen it mentioned, but I consider it important for admins to be willing to take advice from people if they aren't too well-versed in something themselves. At the very least willing to knuckle up and hit the books to learn about it if that means it makes them a better admin.
Mgm
What's also interesting is the number of things that "voters" "OPPOSE" for (vs just not voting "SUPPORT") Too many of these things and it becomes damn hard to select an admin due to all the different camps and their pet peaves.
I've even seen OPPOSEes based on having an "I want to be an admin" userbox. So now it's bad to want to be an admin? What's next, OPPOSEes based on once requesting admin coaching, after all, requesting admin coaching is admitting that you want to be an admin and that's bad.

Forget that, I think we should start opposing people for saying "yes, I accept the nomination." How dare they!

No, oppose them for editing. They would have to have some ulterior motive for writing an encycloepdia. Obviously they're power-hungry. ~~~~
