I've just turned the maximum message size down to 10KB (previously 32KB). This should knock out quite a lot of the spam, since much of it is email worms of 20-30KB.
I don't *think* this will knock out many human messages, though if it does we can turn it back up. Or you could split your epic treatise into two ;-)

Why don't you just copy the entire text of Anna Karenina (or AN/I, about the same size) into an email and try to send it? We know it wont reach the list, and you'll see what kind of reply you get.

Another option is to avoid excessive quoting. O:-)
