The list is readable by anyone on the internet; conversations and decisions here are not secret in any way.
Joining the list to receive messages directly by e-mail and to post to it yourself does not require approval, except by your own confirmation message.
Can you get kicked off the list later for consistent abuse? Certainly, but that's not the same as prior restraint or shadowy back-room dealings, is it?
