I was asked to let everyone know about a little experiment that a reporter for Esquire magazine and Jimbo agreed to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Improve_this_article_about_Wikipedia
The page is pretty self explanatory. A journalist for Esquire magazine, A.J. Jacobs, did a story about Wikipedia, and then posted it on Wikipedia so that Wikipedians can edit it. He wants to see how his draft is changed (preferably for the better).

Is it supposed to be a secret that the magazine is Esquire? The the page doesn't mention it and user "notafish" is being coy about it on the talk page.

damnit, not again. When Jimbo decided to do this last time en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack of the show it ended up being absolute chaos complete with several vandalism sprees. I wish that the community would be consulted in the future when these types of things were decided.

Jtkiefer, no harm no foul. This artice is in "Wikipedia:" namespace and is not a true encyclopedia entry.
The only thing it will do is show how badly Wikipedians are at writing magazine feature articles. :)

could have gone to Wikipedia Signpost if they wanted proof of that, since that's the closest thing that we have to a magazine.

This appeared to have been true, and Ive done my best to inject some life into it. ( WP:ITAAW )
There is currently some debate over the article's size -- Im now wondering if there was some naive assumption on the part of the writer that there would be a side by side of similar sized versions.

Here's a quick update on the process so far: - Folks not familiar with Esquire magazine tend to write in the wooden, straight encyclopedia style we're all used to. Much of the resulting effort has been to reinject life and punch into the article. - There has been back and forth as to what articles we use as exemplars: whimsical, serious, current events, etc. - Jimbo chimed in on the parts about his financial freedom, interest in constitutional law and Ayn Rand. He said how "ludicrous" those comments were. Good thing the part about gun politics was taken out before he saw _that_. :) - Too elaborate. Details about administrators, featured articles, vandal fighting techniques, Nupedia operations, etc. keep creeping in. This article is for a lifestyle magazine, not Linux Journal. - We should probably keep the article close to the original 709 word count. I would say no longer than 900 words. It has regularly climbed to above 1200, requiring major cutbacks.

My favorite edit summary ever!

"Nor do they have articles on the micronation of Sealand, the Holy Prepuce of Jesus, or the cruel and unusual execution method of crushing by elephant." -> "Nor do they have articles on the micronation of Sealand, the Holy Prepuce of Jesus, or the old-fashioned execution method of crushing by elephant."
"remove cruel and unusual, too political for US readers"
Boy! And there I was aiming for light hearted humor...
