We're having a fairly persistent vandal right now.
Since I'm not a developer, it's fairly easy for me to make suggestions. :-) I know it's a joke among programmers--"this will be simple," etc. Anyway, here's my idea: would it be possible to change the function of a ban so that it prevented a banned IP from changing a login or, if not logged in, prevented that IP from logging in? Is that something we would want to do, or not?
Just a thought.

Hi,
blocked IP addresses won't be able to make edits, period. The problem is that I can't nail the vandal's IP without shell access to the server, so I can only block him by name. IP addresses are stored in Apache's access log only. Brion has access, once he's online, I'm sure he'll be able to help us out.
Regards,
Erik

Simple solutions like simple politicians make things too complicated. :-)

We have another vandal -- No-Fx, who is also the former, now banned Michael, who has also recently been using the logged-in name Michaelese. He's aggressively attacking several music articles. And demanding to be the only person allowed to edit certain pages.
