Admins should never be given precedence on *any* thing. Admins should have no special position within the community.
By doing so, you create a two-tiered, have and have not society.
This is not what Ayn Rand wanted, nor what she advocated.
It is however what the Communist Party advocates.
So which, of those two would you choose?

Interesting claim. The counter would be that admins are the better engineers and a man may indeed profit by the sweat of his brow.

Nah communist party would advocate that everyone gets it as soon as they want it while the reality would be that it would only be available after standing in line for several hours.
Both models break down since they assume that they are not dealing with a post scarcity situation (which for the average user wikipedia is at least on a day to day basis).
In practice "admin" is as close to an approximation of "long standing wikipedian" that can be done with little use of server resources,
Admins make great guinea pigs.

Rather it means we should exert all effort to keep the pencil balanced on it's point. Even if that effort is tedious.
rofl. why are you balancing pencils? everyone knows it's rocks that get balanced... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_balancing and pencils that get combined or carved... http://www.georgehart.com/sculpture/pencils.html http://www.jennifermaestre.com/pencil_show.html http://www.infofreako.com/jad/enpitsu-e.html

{{fact}} Where in their policies do they claim this blithering nonsense?

Wow, talk about melodramatic. It is a one-time event, literally....

Great job and good luck, developers! Many of us are very happy you have worked so hard on this admittedly very difficult task that so many people have been asking for!
Hope everything goes well, and thanks!
I'd just like to echo the sentiments of Judson, I know some of the hard work that the developers put into the project, and it's high time they got some thanks and a pat on the back for all that hard work, sleepless nights, wake up calls to fix Amsterdam cluster and son.
I look forward to being an involuntary Drosophila melanogaster...

What a horrific choice to have to make. Good thing "none of the above" is still an option.

Oh for god's sake, how did this troll get so many responses? How admins are distinguished from unprivileged users is a valid topic for conversation, but this thread is about the long-awaited and much welcomed single-user login (SUL) feature finally being implemented. Tim's reasons for restricting the initial rollout to admins are perfectly valid, and there is really no reason the rest of us can't wait a few weeks or so.
WJohnson, your contribution to this thread was truly lamentable. Please don't do it again.

I choked on my soda when I read this. It's a pity this bit of hyperbole wasn't intended to be satire, cause it's funny as hell.
