I'm all in favour of the new watchlist, despite having had to cut down from 1600 items (and that's without automatic).
Previously my watchlist timed out after about 8 am, so I could only view it once a day. Now it works every time. Thank you Brion

You're welcome, Jim.

I wrote on [[Talk: User:Retard]] and [[Wikipedia:Problem users]] that the name User:Retard is offensive. No one has done anything about it. There is a policy about allowing offensive User names. Can we do something about this?

You already did -- you left a message on the user's talk page. There's no need to call out the police forces whenever there's some sign of potential conflict, because doing so makes it more likely that the potential becomes a reality. Let's wait and see how our retarded friend reacts before jumping to any conclusion. He may have chosen the name in an act of self- deprecating irony.

I'll go out on a limb and just assume that the user himself/herself is not actually retarded, either mentally or physically?

not necessarily. we do have several wikipedians with disabilities.
*sigh* No, I didn't mean that, by default, I assume that any Wikipedian is not disabled, but simply that the name chosen by this user was /intended/ to be either "funny" or offensive, and probably /not/ intended to be self-descriptive. I'm making no judgement on the likelihood of a disability in a random Wikipedian, but theorizing on the behavior of a random internet user.

Fair point. I think at any rate, others may find it offensive.
