It seems that convicted mass murderer Shoko Asahara is in the headlines (see examples at http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=asahara ). Looking up the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoko_Asahara I was somewhat annoyed to see that it reads rather hagiographical. Lots of talk about Asahara's achievements as a religious teacher, but very little criticism. The article in its present form is not likely to generate much public admiration for the quality of our work.
My apologies for bothering the list with this, as the matter should normally be referred to peer review et al.; however I thought it might be a little urgent. I am afraid I won't be able to help myself, as I know next to nothing about the person and the relevant sources are likely to be in Japanese.

Not at all, it seems quite proper to bring issues like this to this list. If I only I could help :)

The article starts off: "the founder and former guru of the Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo (now known as Aleph), convicted of masterminding the 1995 Sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway ". Hardly a hagiography. But you know Jim Jones had a reasonably effective and compassionate ministry until he went bonkers. So I suppose his article would have some of the same characteristics.
