He could've cited Copernicus and some of the Greeks, of course.

Interesting point. Is the license okay? It uses parts of Wikipedia, shouldn't it therefor be a derivative licensed piece of art?

IANAL, but this is clearly parody. I'd call it fair use.

It's also only using a short amount of text, and not very creative text at that, so I doubt it's even copyrightable.

I was going to say something like that at first but I have more knowledge in the area of fair use than what is or isn't copyrightable. :)

Wait a minute. Isn't the original image of Galileo facing the Inquisition PD? In that case, can't we recreate the image ourselves?

I don't know, you would need to seek expert advice on that one. I suspect the combination of the image with the captions is creative, so is copyrightable.

You know, someone could just *ask the guy nicely* to make it CC-by-sa or whatever.
(Then we could put it on [[Wikipedia:Verifiability]]!)

Perhaps ask him to go via OTRS, to be super-sure? AGK

Eh, no bloody need for that. The uploader on flickr can simply change the license tag (on flickr) for this image. If this doesn't convince us that the owner of the image wants it to be available under a license we can accept, I'm afraid nothing will.

I regret that my comment was interpreted as an ad hominem attack, and I did not intend it that way. If I were attacking anything, it would be the knee-jerk assumption that the involvement of OTRS might somehow be helpful in any given situation. Again, I apologize for the confusion.

For sure, OTRS is only really useful when you think there might be a problem, and need documentation. Otherwise it just takes 5 times as long, for no obvious gains. :) I'm not bashing otrs, usually we're slow for a reason, but when people are willing and smart enough to upload themselves, with no likely conflict please don't send that to otrs! :D
And I don't think your message was very attacky, but maybe some people react more to "bloody" than others, I'm american so it means almost nothing to me. ;)

I asked him via flickrmail. If he changes it there that's fine, if it looks like it should go to otrs for some reason, I will email him from there as verification. I'll let you know here if I hear anything from him. :)

He said ok, and that he appreciates Wikipedia a lot, and thanks us for our work and passion. :)
It's licensed cc-by now. I will upload it later today and post the location here. If someone beats me to it, he would like a link to the flickr page and his website on the image description page

Too bad it's licensed under Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.0 Generic. It'd add a little lightheartedness to certain process pages!
