Someone should contact the police.
I'm forwarding this to the UK mailing list. I'm sure someone there is in London.

I think once someone does it, they should let us know the results (if any), both to satisfy public curiosity and to make sure we don't spam the London police with concerned phone calls. So barring any emails to this effect in the next minute and a half, I say go for it.

I have reported this to the police; they're sending officers to the address given to investigate.

The police just called me back. "It was a young lad's idea of a hoax" was the expression the officer used to me. Apparently he's been given a severe talking to.
And I was the only one to have reported it to them.
Thanks to Avi for the tip-off.
James.

Why? I can't think of any good reason the page needed to be public.
(I've already sent this to David, but I may as well post this here too) I was not aware of either the ANI post or the conversation on Moe's talkpage. David and Moe both have my full apologies on this, and I have made a statement to that effect on my talk as well. I was really very surprised that the personal info was undeleted, but I realise now that David knew what he was doing as well as I knew what I was doing. Respectfully, Riana

I saw where you were coming from Riana, it's not a problem. I honestly thought you read AN/I and deleted it because there was discussion on AN/I proposing an block of the account and for the message to be ignored as trolling. I was wrong for assuming that. All I can say is that I'm sorry for wasting my time on the hoax like I did, but I guess it was worth to to ensure anything bad from happening. -- Moe

All of this goes to show we need some sort of way of doing a coordinated response. this wont be the last time we see a hoax like this, and some day we may see a real one. I fully accept Riana's apology of course and I apologize myself for not trying to consult with her first.

No, it didn't feel quite right, but as I told the officer who called me to tell me it was a hoax: I couldn't not report it.

Exactly the right steps were taken here. This is one of the things our community can be strongest about; even if we get 999 of these that are hoaxes, the thousandth might well save someone's life.

A more cynical approach is that if people know that we will report such incidents to the police who will not be amused by such hoaxes they are less likely to carry out such hoaxes in the first place.
