And we can't reject it on the grounds that it's a mistake taken from Wikipedia, because we don't have a reliable source stating it's a mistake.

This has happened before. We apply IAR.
This instance is actually a little more embarrassing than usual. Several people, both anons and registered, tried to remove the nonsense over the last year, and were reverted as vandals--by three different Wikipedia administrators. One of them was warned for it as well, and has since left Wikipedia. Geni, so it doesn't happen to you also, i put a note on the talk page, and semi-protected the article.

I was alluding to the Tessaiga example, where no IAR was applied.
IAR doesn't work too well when there are guideline wonks who want the guideline followed at any cost.
