This is a pretty big accomplishment. Good job, everyone. Our next milestone will be 1,000,000 featured articles, sometime in March 2050.

I think our next milestone will be 1,000,000 userboxes... sometime next week. ;-)
Everyone don't party too much tonight, we don't need to have a huge WikiHangover tomorrow. :)
Hehe...
I agree the article will probably be FA sometime tomorrow or this week ;)
Anyways, congratulations on the great achievement to everyone.

I guess Jimbo seeded Wikipedia with its initial articles. Best would be to check [[History of Wikipedia]] or ask him.

According to the History of Wikipedia article, it was U if you mean the first article still in our article space.
Regards
*Keith Old*
I went and read on History of Wikipedia, and it does mention that Jimbo made the first edit, but I already knew that. That edit, however, was just a test. The very first article was created on the second day of Wiki (January 16, 2001) and it is not exactly of FA quality:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=UuU&oldid=291430
WTF is that? Yeah, Jimbo, if you know who created the first, reasonble article on Wiki, let us know. We could add it to the History of Wiki article.

Would anyone consider having a branze plaque mounted to that railway station to commemorate the event?

I'm afraid it's a little worse than that. The following is an announcement from Wikipedia's founder:
Jimbo: In a little while, you'll find out that your userboxes have all been deleted. Well, they're in safe hands. If you want them back, you'll have to write...ONE MILLION ARTICLES!
Number Two COUGHS.
Jimbo: Sorry. ONE-HUNDRED BILLION ARTICLES!
(with apologies to http://www.fortunecity.com/tattooine/clarke/38/scripts/Austin-Powers.htm , and Jimbo of course...)

Indeed. And luckily it wasn't Brian Peppers (internet meme) or Brian Peppers (meme), both of which were created last evening, and at least one of which was deleted several times in a few minutes, along with a nonsense biography of some guy's girlfriend, with pictures (deleted six times) and various other foolishness. I wonder if the millionth counter was perhaps fudged *ever so slightly*, since I saw a mass of dross on newpages and very few decent articles! Guy (JzG)
