Hi all, I notice that lately this mailing list seems to be almost overrun with a lot of noise: complaints about blocking, diatribes about perceived wrongs, requests of various kinds. Whereas what I would really like is a place where the most committed and experienced Wikipedians can discuss more serious issues in a bit of depth: where the project is going, recurring problems at a more abstract level, general issues more distilled than "omg [[foo.com]] is so crap!" etc.
Is there such a list, or place to talk? Is there interest in creating one?
There is certainly a need for the current list, to allow such day-to-day discussions to take place, but somewhere to escape the noise and engage in a bit of deeper reflection would be nice.
Any ideas?
Steve
Isn't that what the mailing list moderators are supposed to keep an eye on?

Nope! We just keep the rowdier kids from fouling the sandbox *too* much.

I think a fair bit of the complaining is by experienced editors. You'd lose most of the more trivial "I've been blocked" emails, but that's all, and those emails aren't hard to ignore.

The best thing to do for wikien-l is to start more good threads.

I'd agree, I think; if another list becomes "the place to talk," it seems to me that all the complaints would just move over there. And *plus* we'd start getting the fun accusations of caballery (mitigated if the archives are public, but still present and plausible).
But anyway, if we want to see more good threads, there's an easy way to get a few, indeed. ;)

Who's ready to start the new non-stupid WikiEN-l thread, part 5 (I think!), then? :P
