Instead of blanking articles why not replace the article text with a redirect to a boilerplate text with something along the lines of "The content of this article is being disputed."
Hmm. But this means links to the article won't be coloured as stubs.

I didn't vote in time, but I think that there should have been a way to tell Wikipedia that the article is a stub. Say, a checkbox next to the minor edit checkbox that says "This article contains no information whatsoever" that makes it be counted as a stub for all links to it and article counting. But, I guess it's too late.
