I find it sickening that he lost his job at Wikia over this issue.

Why? What would happen if you got hired for a job and then it was discovered that you falsified your resume?
He didn't do that. At least according to him, he came clean about his real identity to Wikia staff before taking the job.
What he apparently didn't come clean about were the other, non-hiding-from-scary-people uses of his credentials.

Stop bashing essjay. People get all the facts wrong and then portrait him as some sort of evildoer. He didn't falsify his resume. His wiki userpage is not his resume. He provided his true name , age and data for wikia.

To Whom It May Concern:
My Wikipedia user page is not my resume.
Stan
I should probably state somewhere for the record that I am not a small canine, I am actually a human being. Just in case anyone was wondering, the image on my Userpage is also not a picture of me.

I should probably state that you should believe nothing you see on my userpage, as the page might have been vandalised 2 minutes ago. Can we all go back to normal business now? Michael

God knows. Perhaps such a thought is why he published his real identity when he took the job on Wikia, months ago.
There's a timeline of this little debacle floating around somewhere; I commend it to you.
