Hey, just a thought for adding a new dimension to the Wikipedia foundation. A goal of establishing an adhoc peer to peer mesh network/intranet/internet. Spectrum has been the road block. A nice chunk of L band spectrum currently owned by bankrupt Light Squared is going on the auction block this December. The likely price tag of 2 billion while seemingly staggering for the likes of the Wikipedia foundation to come up with is actually entirely within the reach of this extremely large internet not for profit. The wiki foundation would be the worlds best owner of this spectrum. A partnership with Open Garden would be easy to strike. With the right plan and personnel to see the implementation through, people would be able to access Wikipedia on a Wikipedia ad hoc network without a traditional internet connection inside of 3 months after the purchase. This is cheap spectrum. This should be on the table as a vision for enhancing Wikimedia's world changing purpose of collecting/generating knowledge by enhancing community collaboration, record keeping, and communication.

This is a message to all Wikipedia and Wikimedia corporation personnel, Wikipedia is declining. We need to do something to rejuvenate our project. We need to remember our goal, to create a library of all human knowledge and progress. Peoples view of the project is negative. Wikipedia has become the butt of many jokes. We need to refocus. We need to have a massive PR maneuver to change the public view of us. We need to put aside opinions, beliefs, political, and language barriers and come together to achieve our goal. This will lower vandalism.

I wanted to announce the creation of a new mailing list for Scottish Wikimedians. This is part of an attempt to bring together existing Scottish Wikimedians and encourage new contributors to participate in what we hope will be an increasingly active Wikimedia community in Scotland.
With the WiR-ship at the National Library of Scotland, and the possibility of more WiRs at other organisations in Scotland, there should be many more events and much more activity throughout the country, and we're hoping that this mailing list will lead to even more growth.
Everyone is welcome to subscribe at http://lists.wikimedia.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/scotwiki, and please share with anyone you know who might be interested, or post on relevant talk pages!
Cheers, Ally
