True, had all the discussion on the lolicon image taken place on the article's talkpage (as some of the RFC endorsers have demanded) it would have been a mass of indentation, links to irrelevant policies etc. etc. whereas on the mailing list people can give a more extended, more rational explanation of their argument.

Yes, that RFC has really opened my eyes. There are a decent number of comments along the lines of "I don't object to this image being deleted. But by golly YOU SHOULD HAVE DISCUSSED IT HERE FIRST!"
Also the complaints about the irreversibility of deleting an image pilfered from a web site are, um, *no comment*.
