Essentially: Do pages like [[Lists of basic topics]] belong in
mainspace, or projectspace?
Having failed to get much feedback via a Village Pump post or an
RfC/policy, I bring the request here. See (and reply at) the thread
for the full version.
And Please, please watchlist (and look over) the very slow changing,
but incredibly prominent links in [[Template:Contents pages (header
bar)]] (except List of portals, which updates a lot). We need more
participants there, we hardly have any.
I've never used any of these pages, let alone edited them. Most of
them I didn't know existed e.g. "basic topics" (how do we decide what
is a basic topic anyway...) so really I could care less about the
specifics. Judging by the appearance/layout of the ones I examined
just now, I'd say they look more portal-ish than article-ish (but I do
also realize same reasoning would apply to the [[Main Page]], which is
unlikely to budge any time soon).

[[Wikipedia:Contents]] is the 2nd link in the sidebar! and almost
noone knows about it. (There's only been one addition at the RfC since
I posted this request, 4 days ago.)
The majority of the "lists of basic ___ topics" were created about 2
years ago by user:go for it! (aka user:nexus seven, aka user:the
transhumanist). He explained his method of creation in point 3 at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Nexus_Seven/Archive#can_I_help
I seem to argue with him a lot, so I won't say anything else about
that here, except that I intend to notify every relevant wikiproject
about the existence of said lists, in case they aren't aware, soonish.
